The Cathedral’s Legacy of Faith Campaign: Building for the Future

The Cathedral’s Legacy of Faith - Building for the Future

We’ve completed several building projects to enhance the faith life of the Sacred Heart family.

Phase 1: Additions to Sacred Heart Cathedral School

Ground was broken on August 19, 2019. During the Fall, some of the existing structure was cleared to make room for new construction.

Dave Kimbell and Mary Adams showcase the latest progress on the new SHCS addtion.

Space has been made for dedicated art & music classrooms. A chapel was built so that students and faculty can pray before the Blessed Sacrament. The new lobby and office area will allow our students to access administrators in a secure environment.

Phase 2: Renovating the Cathedral Church

The groundbreaking celebration of the Cathedral Church renovation was celebrated by Bishop William Wack on Sunday, February 23, 2020. Work began the next day. The Cathedral was dedicated on Sunday, November 22, 2020.

The Cathedral renovations enhanced the liturgical art and brought more natural light into the space. The liturgical artists, Rambusch Company, have worked with the Cathedral Renovation Committee in completing a plan to pull all the visual elements into greater harmony. Attention was given to integrate the Spanish-Romanesque style of the church. The two transepts are being opened up for more depth & height. A new apse behind the altar will be highlighted with a stained glass window of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Phase 3: Expanding the Parish Office & Hall Complex

The Parish Life Complex, including the offices and Ave Maria Hall, was constructed 20 years ago. Demand for prayer groups, parish events, music rehearsal, and receptions continue to exceed our current facility capacity. Thus, work to add meeting rooms has been completed concurrent with the Cathedral church renovation.
